BENIN CITY — Rt. Hon. Yekini Idaiye, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, has shed light on the parliamentary tradition that led lawmakers to extend a special honor to the newly appointed Commissioner for Education, Dr. Washington Osifo, during his confirmation process.

The Speaker offered the explanation during a courtesy visit by Dr. Osifo to his office at the Assembly Complex, where both leaders exchanged formal congratulations on their respective roles.

Addressing the traditional courtesy accorded to the appointee, Speaker Idaiye noted that asking Dr. Osifo to “take a bow and go” when his nomination was announced on the floor of the House was a deliberate mark of honor. He explained that the legislative gesture reflected the nominee’s proven track record, long-standing relationship with the legislature, and established capacity for public service.

In his response, Dr. Osifo expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the Assembly for the confidence reposed in him. He singled out the Speaker for praise, drawing parallels between Idaiye’s leadership style and that of the state’s chief executive.

“Just like my boss, Governor Okpebholo, you are so humble,” Osifo remarked during the exchange. “If you see him, you see peace and contentment.”
